Out of shame Onoe decides to do seppuku. She wrote a note and put it into a box together with the GETA sandal of Iwafuji. Onoe asked her servant Ohatsu to pass the box to her parents. On the way Ohatsu opened the box and read the note. Immediately hurried back but Onoe was already dead. Ohatsu in a burst of emotions picked up a knife and ran to Iwafuji, stabbed her several times to death. For her loyalty Ohatsu was promoted to the rank of CHURO-adviser under name Onoe II.
