PREFACE

It is known that in the history of humankind from time to time there are special (meta-historical) events that significantly changes the course of its development. At the same time, it is easy to see that all of them are the result of human development of new, vital technologies.

Such events include, for example, the beginning of a person’s use of fire. One of the most important technologies based on fire was the possibility of thermal processing of food, which radically expanded the power base of ancient people, which ultimately influenced their biology and led to the emergence of modern man.

From closer meta events can be identified the beginning of the use of steam power. The consequences of this are the industrial revolution and the entry of humanity into the new era of scientific and technological progress.

Over the past 150—200 years, man has gained immeasurably more knowledge about the properties of nature and has created significantly more technology than in all previous millennia. It is quite natural that as a result of this, our world is now on the threshold of new, grandiose and largely unexpected metahistorical changes.

These changes are connected with the emerging scientific biotechnological revolution, with the creation of a new Biomedicine.

Most people are not familiar with the dynamics of recent advances in biology, it is difficult, perhaps, to imagine two things — how complex are the processes underlying biological life and how deeply modern science has penetrated into them.

As a result, today we are witnessing a landmark event — human knowledge about the phenomenon of natural biological life has reached an understanding of its most fundamental foundations.

It is quite natural that this understanding is inevitable next step — the creation of new, effective methods and technologies of control mechanisms of biology. Of course, here, first of all, our aspirations are connected with our, human biology to which we have many claims, from thousands of diseases tormenting people, to the most important problems of existence — the inevitable aging and mandatory human mortality…

In this small work, I have tried to describe very briefly, without details and justifications, the prospects of emerging today Biomedicine and the enormous humanitarian, civilizational consequences that await earthly intelligent life as a result of its introduction.

1. ACTUAL IMMORTALITY

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed…

The First Epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthians

PREDICTIONS

It is impossible to describe in such a small work all the scientific and technological prerequisites for the creation of a new Biomedicine that have appeared in recent years[1]. The evidentiary presentation of their details would take too much space.

Therefore, we will simply confirm our statements with a few facts and quotes from authoritative sources:

April 2010. Pope Benedict XVI: “Man’s resistance to death becomes evident”, modern science seeks to find means that save not only from all diseases, “but for our ultimate destiny — for death itself. Surely the medicine of immortality must exist.”

In 2013, at the opening of the established Google California company “Life” (Calico), it was announced that its goal — to extend human life for at least 500 years. Today all activities of the company are classified.

October 2017. President Vladimir Putin: “… in the near future [humanity will enter] in a very difficult and very critical period,” science is capable of “getting into the genetic code” and approaching possibility of creating people “with given characteristics.”

November 2017 Head of the Russian Center for Strategic Research, former Minister A. Kudrin: in 10—15 years “we will have almost immortal people.”

October 2018. Just the other day in the press there was an announcement of the posthumous book of physicist Stephen Hawking in which he suggests that in a near future it will be possible to make changes in human DNA that will improve such “characteristics as memory, resistance to diseases, life expectancy”.

Even these examples are enough to understand that biological science has come to some important milestone. And if even thirteen years ago, my first book about the prospects of human biology management was perceived as a utopia, today many representatives of the elite are already beginning to understand — this is a question of not so distant future. At the same time, it is clear that this future will be very different from any of our ideas about it.

Therefore, today it is not only and not so much the predictions of the development of biotechnology itself that are important, but the assessment of those changes in a person, in the manner of his existence, which will cause their application and which, as the analysis shows, will be, without exaggeration, stunning.

A LITTLE ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES

To understand further, a few words about what will be the new biotechnology, new biomedicine.

These technologies are based both on changes in the genome of the organism, and on interference in the work of organelles of a living cell through the introduction of special organelle-like active particles (biological nano-automata, nano-agents).

Since all vital processes are ultimately determined by the work of cells, this will effectively affect literally all the properties and parameters of the body — physical, neuro-psychological, mental.

There are four main directions of application of future nano-biomedicine:

— immortation (from lat. Immortalis) — “getting immortality”, i.e. termination of the biological aging program that limits today the maximum life expectancy of organisms, including humans, and leads to mandatory death;

— rejuvenation of the body, i.e. elimination of age-related destructive changes already made by the aging program;

— bio-therapy: a) methods of treatment of diseases of any type that have previously arisen in the body; b) creation of a permanent nano-biological system in the body that completely prevents the possibility of any types of diseases[2];

— bio-plasty — changes in physical and psycho-cognitive qualities and properties of a person.

In other words:

immortation will make a person biologically immortal,

rejuvenation will make any person at any age, young again,

bio-therapy will not only cure any disease, but also get rid of the very concept of disease,

and bio-plasty will allow a wide range to change the body, organs, psyche, even traits and intellectual abilities.

Due to certain features, the development of these areas will go at different speeds. It is most likely that some bio-therapy technologies will appear first, and then the technologies of immortation and rejuvenation will be created. And only later will appear (in full) bio-plasty.

Future Biomedicine will have nothing to do with modern medicine chemicals and scalpels. Externally, it will look like “infection” of a person with synthetic “viruses” that will deliver the necessary nano-automata, nano-agents to the cells.

SPECIAL PROPERTY

Any new technologies, after they are introduced into any sphere of human activity, one way or another affect the way of life of people. Sometimes this effect is indirect and unobtrusive, sometimes very noticeable. Even the above description of the general features of the new biomedicine makes it possible to understand that the level of its influence will be unprecedented.

But for us, another unique feature of the “medicine of immortality” is important. It is able to influence people’s lives even BEFORE its creation, BEFORE its introduction, only as a result of people’s belief in the possibility, in the reality of “immortality” technologies. This BELIEF, which will gradually, as the penetration of information about the successes of biology, spread and strengthen in the mass consciousness, will play a huge role in future historical events, will cause significant changes in the Outlook and behavior of people, will affect the economy and social sphere.

This unique feature is determined by the exceptional value and importance for each person of the benefits that new Biomedicine opens up to him. Benefits that can not give any other most fantastic technology.

THE HIGHEST VALUE

It should be understood that immortation, juvenation, bio-therapy, bio-plasty mean not just prolongation of life, treatment of diseases or the ability to easily change the shape of the nose. Their value is much higher — they allow you to get rid of many of the eternal human problems that are not solved in any other way, provide a completely different level, a different quality of existence, an unattainable degree of personal freedom, incredible individual opportunities.

So, bio-therapy is not just an effective medicine. This is an exception to the very possibility of any bodily problems. This is life in conditions of absolute physical and psychic comfort.

The value of bio-plasty is not only in the ability to freely change (for example, for sexual and aesthetic purposes) your body and psychological qualities. It is also a solution to a huge social and psychological problem, a victory over a significant natural injustice. This injustice is the physical and intellectual inequality of human beings from birth. Having the opportunity to change themselves, people will cease to be a passive result of hereditary genetic lottery parent DNA fusion. The man himself, not the game of chance, will decide what he should be, how to look, what abilities to possess. This will prove to be, among other things, a huge step towards achieving the true equality of people that is impossible today.

The meaning of immortation can, perhaps, be likened to the abolition of the death sentence imposed on a person. However, the value of immortality is not only in this. It will give a person something more — an unlimited time for self-realization, a change of professions, the solution of any life problems, the opportunity to live “a thousand lives.”

It is also difficult to overestimate the human significance of rejuvenation giving an enduring youth, the secret of which people sought at all times and for which they were ready to “sell their soul to the devil”.

It is easy to understand that the most important, key in its role, technology here is immortation. Having gained the possibility of physiologically unlimited life, everyone sooner or later will be able to get all the other benefits of Biomedicine — unlimited life in a healthy, young, perfect body, something that could not dream of any pharaohs or kings, no one ever in the world.

Thus, “immortality” is the greatest possible benefit with which no values of today’s human being compare: no yachts, no palaces, no life under palm trees. And when people begin to realize this, the desire for bio-immortality will become the most powerful, most mass ideology in the history of humankind.

TO LIVE TO IMMORTALITY

Naturally, before every person who believes in the possibility of technological immortality, the question arises: what should be done to get the immortalization of themselves and their loved ones? The answer is obvious: the main condition under all circumstances is to live, survive, save your life until the real appearance of this technology. This, as practice shows, people understand in the first place, when they learn about Biomedicine.

What you need to do in order to increase your chances of “survival” is also clear to everyone: first, to maintain your health and, secondly, not to die as a result of an accident.

As faith in immortality intensifies, the desire for “survival” will become the main need of huge masses, a universal global goal. Such mass character will lead to serious, not always obvious today and not all positive consequences in the future.

NEW CAUTION

It is not difficult to understand how the two above-mentioned “survival” conditions will be solved.

Measures to maintain health are known: medical prevention, physical activity, rejection of bad habits. It is quite clear, and their positive effects.

However, it will not do without problems. Increased attention to health will create obvious problems in the field of health care: an increase in the number of calls to medical institutions, an increase in the requirements to improve health care, increase its availability, etc.

However, all these problems (we will not dwell on them) do not go to any comparison with the problems that will arise as a result of the mass desire to avoid accidents. The growing faith of people in immortation will give rise to the so-called “new caution” syndrome, which, rapidly spreading and intensifying, will quickly grow into a general excess of caution, in an effort to protect yourself and your loved ones as much as possible from any possible dangers.

The growing belief of people in immortation will give rise to a syndrome of so-called “new caution”, which, rapidly spreading and increasing, will quickly grow into a General “super-caution”. People will begin to seek to protect themselves and their loved ones from any even the most minor dangers.

The peculiarities of human psychology will naturally lead to the fact that the desire to avoid dangerous situations, real or imaginary, will become more than just increased circumspection. It will become a mass fad, a fashion, and in some cases will turn into psychosis.

On the one hand, super-caution will bring a lot of positive. There will be a real increase for people of the value of their lives.

It sounds paradoxical, if you do not remember a lot of examples of how often people put their lives at risk because of laziness, frivolity, for the sake of “adrenaline” entertainment. The Outlook of people and their attitude to risk will change. The deceased climber will be perceived not as an example of courage, but as a loser who missed his chance at immortality, etc.

One of the most important consequences of this will be a significant reduction in the likelihood of various kinds of armed conflicts, since over time, fewer people will be willing to expose their lives, and hence their future immortality, to the dangers of war. The number of suicides will drop — the prospect of immortation will become for many an additional stimulus to life.

These massive changes in people’s minds will allow developing unusual and very effective measures in the fight against violent crimes, including their most radical form, suicide terrorism. Such a measure would be the adoption of laws on the prohibition of immortation for murderers, accomplices and organizers of such crimes, including politicians and other public figures who intentionally incite strife and provoke bloody conflicts. “The ban on immortality” will become a serious deterrent here.

Examples of the positive impact of the “new caution” on people’s lives can be continued to list, but each side of the coin has a flip side. And here it is very visible.

SUPER-CAUTION IN ORDINARY LIFE

Since the threat to life, often very unlikely, exists everywhere: on the street, in transport, on vacation, in the elevator, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, etc., then super-caution in common will inevitably lead to certain difficulties in everyday people’s lives.

Existing phobias will grow stronger and new phobias will arise.

Especially in this connection it is worth noting transport phobia. Today, up to 15% of people experience an insurmountable fear of air travel, and 70% have discomfort. “New caution” can change these figures in places. In general terms, it is easy to imagine what damage this will cause, for example, the tourism industry, the air transport complex, aircraft manufacturers, manufacturers of aluminum, aviation fuel, etc.

The new transport phobia will also inevitably lead to a reduction in contacts in science, politics, culture, sports; will negatively affect business and industrial-technological ties. The latter, in the context of the growing globalization of the world economy and the ever-increasing level of the division of labor, is fraught with even more serious social and economic consequences.

However, even this is only part of a more significant common problem.

DANGEROUS WORK

At all times, some economic activities have been associated with a risk to people’s lives. And today, despite all the efforts in the field of labor protection, the number of accidents and deaths in hazardous industries is striking.

At the same time, the modern economy is impossible without builders, sailors, drivers, miners, chemical workers and many other dangerous occupations. Today, the balance between the need for hazardous industries and the natural reluctance of people to expose themselves to risk can be maintained mainly due to a higher payment of such labor.

However, with the onset of “new caution,” this balance will begin to be violated. Gradually, people will begin to understand that if you risk the ultimate life for money, it is permissible, but to risk his immortality is unacceptable. The prospect of an “infinite” existence and eternal youth does not have a material equivalent. Common sense suggests that, in anticipation of immortation, it is more sensible to leave dangerous work for a less paid one, and then to make up for all the losses associated with it, using endless possibilities of immortality.

As a result, “new caution” will lead to a reduction in the number of people who allow for professional risks. In developed countries, the rejection of dangerous occupations will most likely become massive. Depending on various circumstances, the consequences for the world and local economic, social, political systems may be very serious, if not completely catastrophic.

COLLAPSE?

It is still difficult to quantify here. However, it can be assumed that if today even relatively small disruptions in certain sectors of the economy of individual countries are capable of causing protracted world crises, then the fall in the level of mining, the reduction of construction and installation, repair, fish harvesting, logging, logistic problems, etc. as a result of the loss of at least 10—15% of workers, multiplying, are able in a short time to cause a severe super crisis.

At the same time, the loss of 30—50% of these products will lead the modern world, where the whole economy and economic activities are entangled by thousands of important links, to complete social and economic collapse and, in the worst case scenario, will put it literally on the brink of survival.

If we add to this the results of super-caution in ordinary life and a number of other problems-for example, the inevitable decline in incentives for entrepreneurship, the overall picture of the future looks very depressing: shifts in people’s minds can cause consequences more destructive than global nuclear conflict, lead to degradation of the planetary civilization literally to the primitive state.

COUNTERACTION

Of course, to counteract the destructive consequences of the human desire to live until the beginning of immortation, every possible measure will be taken. Without dwelling on the details, we only note that the main direction here is perfectly understandable: the maximum elimination of a person from all processes where he can be exposed to hazards or himself create them, by automating dangerous sectors and industries.

Quantitatively assess the costs and time needed to mass replace hazardous production facilities for fully robotic or remote controlled, it is impossible today. In terms of qualitative changes, we are talking about a revolutionary technological re-equipment, which requires the efforts of thousands, millions of enterprises and design bureaus, and a huge amount of fundamental and scientific-applied developments. But of course, the main thing here is time — the crisis will not wait. Only those countries that will begin to deal with the organizational, technical, and economic complex of these problems before others will be able to count on mitigating the consequences of the coming industrial and economic catastrophe.

It should be noted that certain technical capabilities and developments in the automation of hazardous industries already exist. The development of safe analogs is constrained primarily by economic reasons: they are less profitable today. Obviously, forced international political and economic measures will be required to change the situation.

There is no doubt that sooner or later all of these problems will be solved. However, the period of development and mass introduction of safe production facilities in any, even the most favorable, option will be quite long, so that long-term socio-economic destabilization on a global and local scale is inevitable.

Smena-CALYPSE

Obviously, the most dramatic moments will be the beginning and peak of the crisis. This will be a time of a significant drop in the volumes of all types of products, a shortage of primary resources, managerial and political confusion, a general fall in the standard of living.

Everywhere, albeit to varying degrees, there will be difficulties in providing the population with food and basic necessities. Almost inevitable introduction of rationing consumption (card system). Very likely in this regard, cases of mass unrest, the growth of petty criminality, the possibility of counteraction by force, while will be significantly reduced due to the action of the “new caution” complex.

Deficit and problems of supply will necessitate radical changes in the system of socio-economic and production relations. Market capitalist principles will cease to respond to the current situation. Under the pressure of circumstances, socio-economic relations will begin to take forms close to military communism: with nationalization, the state monopoly and the administrative management of the economy. At the end of the crisis, at its final stages, a socially oriented centralized economy of a socialist type, based on highly efficient computerized production and consumption management, will most likely be established.

In different parts of the world, this mega crisis will, of course, have its own peculiarities: if, for example, African Bushmen and Amazonian tribes do not notice much change, while the urban population, which is unable to produce at least part of its food, will be in a worse situation.

In general, this time will probably be one of the most difficult stages in the history of modern humankind, a period of great difficulties and the inevitable change of economic mechanisms, a change in the content and forms of social, political relations. This time, by analogy with the biblical turbulence before the onset of paradise life for the immortals, one can call, starting from the Russian word “smena” (change), smenacalypse.

However, like its biblical counterpart, the smenacalypse will not last forever, and over time, the situation in all spheres of life will stabilize in new forms. At the same time, most of the social, political, interethnic, personal problems that seem vital today will completely lose their significance; will be replaced by the realities of the new time.

OPERATION “TRANSITION”

But the struggle against the chaos of the smenacalypse will not be the sole task of this period. Despite all the difficulties, the development of biomedicine in technologically advanced countries will continue. It is likely that during this period the creation of real, working methods of immortation will be completed, and their practical application will begin.

As a result, there will be a lot of ethical, legal issues and problems of mass application of these biotechnologies.

It is obvious that at the international level there will be recognition of the universal immortation of people as the highest goal of the existence of human civilization, the Declaration of these technologies as a universal property, and the right to immortation as an inalienable voluntary right of every person. This will create the basic legal conditions for universal immortation, for the transition of the entire population of all countries and regions in the state of biological immortality.

At some stage, preparations will begin for the global immortation of the entire population of the planet, for the transition. The implementation of the global transition will be an unprecedented joint operation of humanity.

The main goal of the transition company is to maximize the saving of human lives, and the main task is to stop the deaths of people as a result of aging. (The latter determines the natural priority in the order of immortation for elderly people.)

It is clear that the implementation of these principles in practice will depend on the speediness of the deployment of the practical mechanisms of this global program, and also on the level of complexity of the procedure of immortation itself. If, in the worst case, this technology will be individual, i.e. in need of a special complex “setup” for each individual, the transition can be delayed for a long time. However, there is reason to believe that its application will be fairly simple.

But even then, because of its scale, the operation of universal importation will certainly be very difficult and will face considerable difficulties (especially in poor countries with low-educated populations, in hard-to-reach places). In addition, it will be complicated by the General socio-economic and managerial crisis and “new caution”. It is also impossible to exclude the emergence of many other various excesses, including mass migration “for immortality” in the more developed countries[3].

NEW WORLD, NEW PROBLEMS

However, sooner or later all the problems of transition will be solved. Also, under any scenario, the time of change will end with the inevitable economic and social stabilization of the world in new conditions, in new forms. As a result, the situation on earth in a variety of areas will be significantly different from today.

It is clear that it is difficult to describe in detail all the features, processes and problems of the new society today. However, some of them are quite obvious.

Demography. Essential role here, except, of course, physiological immortality, will play the consequences of rejuvenation of people. Naturally, juvenation will seriously affect the socio-demographic situation. Mass rejuvenation will lead to a sharp, almost simultaneous disappearance in the world of 2—3 billion elderly people and the simultaneous appearance of the same number of young people. This full of vitality “new old” will require its social, economic and physical space of existence, primarily new jobs. Their entry into the labor market will obviously be a significant problem, because having a great deal of life and professional experience, they will substantially reduce the chances of generations who are entering an independent life. Although the problem of unemployment among young people is not new, such a sharp aggravation will lead to fundamental changes in the distribution of life benefits, in public pension systems and social support.

Another significant socio-demographic problem will be a significant acceleration of population growth, both as a result of the cessation of physiological mortality, and due to the emergence of fertility in the cohort of “new old”. Obviously, as a result, at least in some communities, the introduction of measures to limit fertility is inevitable. However, as will be shown, subsequent events will not allow this tendency to grow into a problem of a catastrophic overpopulation of the planet.

Economic system. The “decapitalization” of the production and economic sphere, which began earlier, during the period of the shift, will be completed by the final establishment of a system of public ownership of the means of production on the basis of full automation and computerization of economic and production management.

This will lead to significant changes in the social sphere. Such “computer socialism” will make it possible to get rid of many of the organic shortcomings of capitalism, primarily from the significant socioeconomic stratification (wealth and poverty), and, most importantly, eliminate the bases for the emergence of various crises characteristic of the system of private entrepreneurship. The vitality of such a “utopian” society will ensure not only the progress of automated production facilities, but also significant changes in consumer behavior of people that will be associated with the consequences of the application of biomedicine discussed below.

Globalization and disarmament. Computerization of economic management will inevitably lead to super globalization, to the unification of national control systems into a single global network. Together with other factors already mentioned, this will lead to a minimization of the possibility of the emergence of any armed conflicts, to a reduction, even to a complete cessation, of the costs of the army and armament.
