This is a Pussy called Miss Moppet, she thinks she has heard a mouse!
А мышь спряталась за шкафом и оттуда дразнит мисс Кис-Кис. Она не боится котёнка.
This is the Mouse peeping out behind the cupboard, and making fun of Miss Moppet. He is not afraid of a kitten.
Мисс Кис-Кис заметила и подскочила к ней слишком поздно.
This is Miss Moppet jumping just too late.
This is Miss Moppet jumping just too late; she misses the Mouse and hits her own head.
She thinks it is a very hard cupboard!

А мышка свысока поглядывала на мисс Кисс-Кисс, забравшись на шкаф.
А мисс Кис-Кис повязала голову тряпкой и села ку камина.
Miss Moppet ties up her head in a duster, and sits before the fire.
Однако мышке стало жаль бедного котёнка.
The Mouse thinks she is looking very ill. He comes sliding down the bell-pull.
И она потихоньку проскользнула под колокольчиком…
И подобралась поближе…

The Mouse comes a little nearer.
Мисс Кис-кис выглядит всё хуже и хуже.
Miss Moppet looks worse and worse.
И мышка решается подобраться к бедняжке поближе.
The Mouse comes a little nearer.
Мисс Кис-Кис обхватила свою головку лапками, пытаясь увидеть хоть что-то сквозь тряпку.
Miss Moppet holds her poor head in her paws, and looks at him through a hole in the duster.
И мышка подошла совсем близко.
The Mouse comes very close.
И тут вдруг мисс Кис-Кис изловчилась да как прыгнет на мышку!
And then all of a sudden — Miss Moppet jumps upon the Mouse!
Мисс Кис-Кис решила связать мышонка.
Miss Moppet thinks she will tease the Mouse.
И затянула его в тряпку…
She ties him up in the duster…
И поскольку мышонок был дразнился, мисс Кис-кис решила, что тоже может его подразнить, что не подобало бы делать юной леди.
And because the Mouse has teased Miss Moppet — Miss Moppet thinks she will tease the Mouse; which is not at all nice of Miss Moppet.
Завязав мышонка в тряпку, она начала катать его как мячик.
She ties him up in the duster, and tosses it about like a ball.
...and tosses it about like a ball.
Только она забыла, что в тряпке была дырочка, через которую мышонок ускользнул из тряпки — и был таков!
But she forgot about that hole in the duster; and when she untied it — there was no Mouse!
Вырвавшись из плена, он тут же рванул прочь и принялся лихо отплясывать на самом верху шкафа.
He has wriggled out and run away; and he is dancing a jig on the top of the cupboard!
