Paradise Demands Death

Contents

Honey

Even paradise requires death

Even paradise requires death,

Shadows in the light like beasts.

Through the flowers that are in the city light,

There’s a whisper of life’s measure.

Ever green, ever happy,

But behind the happiness are the shadows of power.

Soon in the breast where life lives,

A secret groaning is heard again.

Thoughts are like streams in springtime,

“They’ll never be silent in this life,

And in paradise, where all is without a fight,

A star shines with gentle evil.

Light and darkness are like two friends,

Laughter and tears are always circling

The world is ruled by passion and negativity,

But there’s anxiety too.

The fruits of happiness and temptation,

Every sin is a gift from heaven.

Even in paradise and in blessing,

Death is the beginning and the end.

It leads to spring and summer,

From the liberated soul.

Even paradise requires death,

In eternal life, silence.

Like the Mona Lisa

You’re as beautiful as the Mona Lisa.

I dare not touch you

Looking at you in secret

From Good Hope, like a cape.

I write poems in silence,

I write about love like Nabokov

From such forbidden streams,

I’ll put them on a shelf

To be dusty in hope,

To be rediscovered,

Like a commodity in short supply.

Without the pawns of all the pawns,

Without fear of the gendarmes, without fear of being followed.

I’ll throw off my shackles

To run straight to you

Once again trusting in fate,

Like the warriors of Troy.

I open the gates

To receive you as Christ.

But I sense trouble

That this is a mistake.

Too beautiful and harmless

It can’t be so

For I’m a stranger in these matters,

And my fate is unenviable.

To be a lonely poet

Singing of love and trouble

But to be a friend and a son

Helping with a single word.

Since when?

Since when did a bottle

Became the solution to problems?

We look for truth in wine,

Hidden in the shroud of secrecy.

The longer the year,

The more beautiful our words.

We’re demigods in our own right

distracted from all our cares.

We live in the power

The power of what intoxicates

Intoxicating and stupefying,

In the sleep of the ages.

Forgetting how to think

Forgetting how to live

Forgetting how to give joy

And love.

We tempt ourselves

Day after day

Suffocating the soul and the body

It’s so numb and old.

That makes you want to cry your eyes out,

Hiding our everyday life.

We still have our masks on

And we’re ashamed in Spanish.

We don’t want to change a thing

Like slugs

We’ve lost our ability to live

Forgetting how to think.

Where will your boastful goat

Wherever your blessed goat will lead you

There will be your halo

Of evil.

And your road is not hard

But your judgement will be hard

Like a colt at your head.

Your ashes will be thrown into the sky.

Falling in love

How I love love

The purity of beauty

In the whoredom of immersion.

Falling for the senses of awakening,

Lost in the emptiness

Wanting to doom love

But trapped again

Losing clarity of thought

We go to the door that closed

That inadvertently killed us.

In a past environment

Where our thoughts were at cross-purposes.

Swapping ugly with beauty

And chaos with silence

It’s just a game.

Where we’re all pawns

On a chessboard

Attracted to the longing

And a sad life

But our desires are capricious

They’re fighting this battle

Where every hero

Following the great dream

To go through the war

To be loved and to love.

The last of me

I’m drinking myself

Like the last shot

Of the evil potion

Waiting for the hangover

Seeking the shores of salvation

Smoking myself out

Like the last cigar

Trying to give a break

To give a burnt-out soul

Putting your spirit in rebellion.
